Invitation Tips

Recently, we've had several questions about the proper wording for different situations dealing with invitations.  I think some of this information might be helpful when you are working on your wedding stationary.  Invitations issued when both parents are paying and they're divorced, use the names of both parents; for example, Mrs. Jane Doe and Mr. John Doe requests the honour of your presence.  If the father or mother is deceased and the surviving parent issues the invitation, do the following:  Mrs. (or Mr.) Mathew Ellis Harper requests the honour of your presence at the marriage of her (his) daughter.  If father or mother is deceased and the surviving parent has remarried, the remarried mother would use her present husband's name, but the remarried father would use the conventional form, such as:  Mrs. David Lee Carson requests the honour of your presence at the marriage of her daughter Anne Hailey Harper.

If you have an invitation dilemma, just post it and we'll be glad to answer any questions that may concern you.
