Decor for your wedding

Having a small intimate wedding?  Consider using cube seating instead of chairs.  Using a circular set up allows guests to have a great chance of witnessing the ceremony.

Think of your Guests

If you are planning an outdoor wedding consider the comfort of your guests.  Ladies love wearing heels, but heels are not always compatible with the great outdoors.  Purchase a large basket, fill with different sizes of flip flops and add a note inviting guests to grab a pair.  Your thoughtfulness will be greatly appreciated.

Fight Box

On your wedding day you and your groom are so much in love and it may be hard to imagine that you will ever fight, but you will.  Create a "Fight Box" for the time when you need reminding of the reason you married in the first place.

Before your wedding day, gather a wooden box, a bottle of your favorite wine and two glasses.  Write love notes to each other, explaining your feelings as you prepare to start your new life together as husband and wife.  Seal your letter without letting your soon to be read what you've written.

During your ceremony, place the love notes inside the wooden box with the wine and glasses.  Take turns hammering the box shut, one nail at a time, until the box is sealed.

Agree to keep the box sealed until a special anniversary, like your 10th or 20th, unless you hit a rough patch.  Then break open the box, pour the wine, read the letter, and remember what it's all about.

Pew Cones

Pew cones simply decorate the wedding aisle. Here is directions on how to make your own for your or someone else's wedding. Supples you will need is in the following: -Embossed, paintable, unpasted wallpaper. -Hot-glue gun and glue -Silver or gold spray paint -Hole punch -Ribbon or cord for hanging -Flowers, in water/floral pick Directions: 1. Cut strips of wallpaper to 8 1/2 inches tall by 9 inches long. It's ok to make these larger or smaller, depending on the scale of your pews or chairs. 2. With the embossed (textured) size facing outward, take one corner and roll the wallpaper diagonally, toward the opposite corner, 3. Secure the edge with hot glue. Watch your fingers! 4. Spray paint the cone with metalli paint. Let it dry. You may need more than one coat. 5. Punch a hole into the top of the cone, about 1 inch from the top point. 6. Attach the ribbon or cord to hang the cone on a pew. 7. Insert your flowers. They should be in a water/floral pick to keep the paper cone from getting wet. 8. Hang the cone on a pew **Taken from The DIY Bride. Written by Khris Cochran

What Would You Do...?

As clients have questions on weddings and how we settle matters, us planners also have questions on how you adjust to unexpected changes and create a solution for them.  Let's use one question that is sticking to me now:  If your best friend has turned into a Maidzilla, how would you handle it?

If you would, please post a response below and explain your reasoning.

Choose Your Favorite -- Wedding Shoes

We love shoes at Visions.  Tell us which pair is your favorite or post a photo of a pair you purchased, or borrowed for a special occassion!

Great Way to Choose Your Linen

Try Preston Bailey's Table Cloth Game.  You may find it useful in planning your colors and your linens.

Invitation Tips

Recently, we've had several questions about the proper wording for different situations dealing with invitations.  I think some of this information might be helpful when you are working on your wedding stationary.  Invitations issued when both parents are paying and they're divorced, use the names of both parents; for example, Mrs. Jane Doe and Mr. John Doe requests the honour of your presence.  If the father or mother is deceased and the surviving parent issues the invitation, do the following:  Mrs. (or Mr.) Mathew Ellis Harper requests the honour of your presence at the marriage of her (his) daughter.  If father or mother is deceased and the surviving parent has remarried, the remarried mother would use her present husband's name, but the remarried father would use the conventional form, such as:  Mrs. David Lee Carson requests the honour of your presence at the marriage of her daughter Anne Hailey Harper.

If you have an invitation dilemma, just post it and we'll be glad to answer any questions that may concern you.

More 2011 favorites

Welcome back, today I want to share another of my favorite weddings from 2011.  Let me introduce you to Tricia and Justin, theirs was an outdoor wedding, held at the bride's parents home in June.  The property is beautiful and perfect for a wedding. Outdoor weddings can be a challenge and it rained the day before and the morning of the wedding.  But it didn't dampen the spirits of our happy couple.  The wedding was held on the lawn and the reception was in a beautiful white tent.

Tricia and her mom Deborah planned the decor, the whole event was casual yet elegant, earthy, fun and playful.  What a great team and a delight to work with.

Did you have an outdoor wedding or attended one if so what were some of the issues you ran into?  Do you have questions that you would like answered about an outdoor wedding?

Stay tuned for more on the Fowler Staples Wedding.

Clarksville Bridal Showcase

Welcome, thanks to all the lovely brides who visited our booth on Sunday at the Clarksville Bridal Showcase.  I wanted the brides to walk away with cost saving and creative ideas for their wedding.  For those of you that were not able to attend we set up three tablescapes and asked the brides to chose their favorite.  There choices were Summer, Bling and "Twilight" based on the movie.
Centerpiece from the Summer Theme works well for an indoor or outdoor wedding.

The square miniature containers announced the menu to your guest, an easy DIY project.  The containers could also be filled with fresh herbs.  The bride and groom cake topper gives the set up a touch of whimsy.  Instead of table runners we used ribbon, purchasable at any craft store, and a great money saver.

Favor boxes, cake toppers, and invitations are available through Visions.

Check back with us for more details on the tablescapes and to find out which tablescape was the top pick.  If you see something you like or would like information on a project let me know.  I love sharing.

Clarksville Bridal showcase

Searching for ideas, want to know the latest wedding trends, looking for a particular vendor, then you must attend the Clarksville Bridal Showcase, Sunday January 15th at the Red Barn on the APSU campus.  The show begins at 12:00.  You can preregister by visiting  www.clarksvillebride.com.  Don't miss the opportunity to see what's available locally, win prizes, see the latest wedding attire, and meet other brides. While you're there check out Visions; we would love to talk to you.  After the show post your likes or something you learned while attending.  Can't wait to hear from you.

Personalize your wedding

One way to make your wedding unique is to add an ice carving.  There is a new company in Clarksville, Tennessee called Fire & Ice, a catering company with also provides ice carvings.  Ice carvings can be used for decor, to keep foods cold or a great way to serve your signature drink.  Ross Wilson, owner and executive chef , will be showing off his ice carving and food at the Clarksville Bridal Showcase this Sunday.  Check him and and sample his foods.  For additional information check out his web site at www.fireandicetn.com/wp.

The Silver Spoon Cakes and Catering

This is the time of the year I begin searching for new and exciting vendors. I recently interviewed Jennifer Aquino the owner of The Silver Spoon Cakes and Catering company.  She resides in Clarksville, Tennessee.  I also had the opportunity to taste her delicious fare when she catered an event for me.  Her prices are reasonable and my guests raved about her food.

Check out her web site at www.thesilverspooncakesandcatering.com.  Or better yet give her a call at 931 436 3481.  You won't be disappointed.
